Unable to save converted report” Error in Power BI Service – Looking for Solutions
Hello everyone,
I’m encountering a persistent issue in Power BI Service and would appreciate any guidance.
Whenever I make any modification to my report (even something as simple as adding a space in a text box) I immediately get the following error:
Here’s what I’ve tried so far, without success:
Updated the imported visuals
Completely removed those visuals
Deleted the new Card visual (as I read it might cause issues)
Attempted to disable TMDL view from the Preview features, but it still appears enabled in my environment
Despite all these steps, the error continues to occur.
Has anyone else experienced this issue? Do you have insights into what might be causing it or how to resolve it? Any suggestions or workarounds would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance!

If you have a Pro license you can open a Pro ticket at https://admin.powerplatform.microsoft.com/newsupportticket/powerbi
Otherwise you can raise an issue at https://community.fabric.microsoft.com/t5/Issues/idb-p/Issues . - AnonymousNot applicable
Hi AmiraS ,
Thanks for reaching out to the Microsoft fabric community forum.
This error often occurs when reports are auto-converted to the enhanced format in Power BI Service, leaving behind unsupported metadata. Removing visuals doesn't always clear their metadata, and disabling preview features won't reverse a conversion. To fix this, download and open the report in the latest Power BI Desktop, save as a new PBIX, and republish. If issues continue, rebuild the report from scratch. If that fails, submit a support ticket as mentioned by lbendlin .
Thank you.

Hello, I tried to open a support ticket but I did not receive any answer yet: Unable to save converted report” Error in Power BI... - Microsoft Fabric Community

Hi AmiraS ,
Sorry for the delay response and thank you for the update and for confirming the behavior.
Currently, what you are experiencing aligns with a known limitation where reports converted to the enhanced (TMDL) format in the Service can retain unsupported metadata. Unfortunately, there is currently no supported way to bulk-repair or reverse this state directly in the Power BI Service.
Regarding the support ticket and the Issues forum post: responses are not immediate and typically depend on engineering triage and prioritization. Not receiving an update yet does not indicate a problem with your submission, but rather that it is under review.
For now, the only reliable mitigation is the approach you already validated re-saving the report as a new PBIX in the latest Power BI Desktop and republishing. While this is time-consuming for multiple reports, it is the only known method that fully clears the unsupported metadata.
If you have multiple reports affected, you may want to prioritize critical ones first while awaiting an update from the product team via your support ticket or the Issues forum. Any permanent fix or tooling improvement would need to come from the service side.
We appreciate your patience and recommend monitoring the ticket for updates from engineering.
