I have a Semantic model published to PBI Service. And there is a report that uses the published Semantic model (live connection).
Both the report and Semantic model and the report are in the same workspace and was deployed through the same pipeline.
We have 3 wokspaces, DEV, UAT, PROD.
The DEV report file has been overwritten. QAT and PROD have a different version.
I am trying to download the report pbix file from PROD but I am unable to. I don't see the option when I click on the ellipsis against the report file.
I am able to download the semantic model but now the report pbix.
I need that production copy as teh DEV is overwritten by a team member and we don't have the original version.
Solved! Go to Solution.
Disconnect the "PRO" workspace from the pipeline. Download the PBIX. Start over.
@V-yubandi-msft I am still not sure what the solution is to be able to overcome the limitation. Could you elaborate please. Can you confirm if this a deployment pipeline limitation or is it a setting that needs change?
Disconnect the "PRO" workspace from the pipeline. Download the PBIX. Start over.
Consult the (very long) list of limitations, modify your Prod semantic model settings accordingly and then download the file.
https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/create-reports/service-export-to-pbix#limitations
Then immediately place that file under version control so this doesn't happen again.
Thank You for your response @lbendlin . I went through the limitations and I can see the following is relevant to my scenario:
However I don't see how Semantic model settings can be modified to overcome this.
Can this limitation be overcome with any workarounds? I am able to download teh semantic model but not the pbix report file that has a live connection to the published model deployed through the pipelines.
Edit:
I can see from this post - https://community.fabric.microsoft.com/t5/Service/Unable-to-edit-downloaded-pbix-file-which-was-publ...
@aj1973 has mentioned that it is a tenant setting and it has nothing to do with deployment pipelines.
Can you guide on which tenant settings needs change?
