Hi, I am trying to publish a Power BI dashboard and enable regular refresh using an on-premise data gateway. While creating the new connection pointing to the analysis service, I am getting the following error (from the log file) (I have removed actual user name from the message below)
GatewayPipelineErrorCode=DM_GWPipeline_UnknownError
GatewayVersion=
InnerType=AdomdErrorResponseException
InnerMessage=<ccon>The 'XXXX' user does not have permission to call the Discover method.</ccon>
InnerToString=<ccon>Microsoft.AnalysisServices.AdomdClient.AdomdErrorResponseException: The 'XXXX' user does not have permission to call the Discover method.
at Microsoft.AnalysisServices.AdomdClient.XmlaClient.CheckForException(XmlReader reader, XmlaResult xmlaResult, Boolean throwIfError)
This is the last step in getting an important Power BI report published and regularly updated.
Also to confirm, I am able to access the analysis services without any issues from Power BI desktop.
Please can you advise what is going on here and a resolution please?

The gateway connection user must be cube admin. Yes, shocking. But according to Patrick LeBlanc that is by design, and there are no plans to change that requirement.
Hi @vasum,
Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Fabric Community forum.
The error occurs because the user account specified in the on-premises data gateway configuration does not have the required permissions in SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS) to execute the Discover method.
The user responsible for the on-premises data gateway connection must possess cube administrator permissions in SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS) to ensure proper functionality with Power BI Service.
Patrick LeBlanc's statement is accurate: cube admin permission is required, and there are currently no plans to reduce this requirement.
