Unable to Remove Residual Data Source Credentials for Deleted Tables in Dataflow

I’m experiencing an issue in Power BI Service related to residual data source credentials for deleted tables in a dataflow. Here's the situation:

  1. I created a dataflow using a OneDrive link and included seven tables.
  2. Later, I deleted three of the tables from the dataflow. The dataflow now contains only the remaining four tables, and the refresh for these is working fine.
  3. However, in the Data Source Credentials section, I still see entries for the deleted tables. These entries cannot be edited, removed, or cleared, and they are causing errors.
  4. The lineage view does not show these deleted tables, indicating that they no longer exist in the dataflow itself.

    Hi hope these 3 steps help. This issue occurs because the deleted table references persist in the metadata of the dataflow. To resolve this problem, follow these steps:


    1. Clear and Rebuild the Dataflow Metadata: Open the affected dataflow in Power BI Service. Select Edit Dataflow and check the Query Editor to ensure no residual queries or references for the deleted tables exist. Save and close the dataflow.


    2. Force Refresh the Dataflow: Perform a full refresh of the dataflow to clear any outdated metadata related to the deleted tables.


    3. Rebuild Dataflow (if needed): If residual credentials persist: Export the dataflow JSON file by navigating to Settings → Export JSON. Remove references to the deleted tables in the JSON file. Delete the existing dataflow. Reimport the modified JSON file as a new dataflow.


    4. Clear and Reapply Credentials: Navigate to Manage Gateway in Power BI Service. Revalidate or clear the credentials for the dataflow. Reapply credentials only for the active data sources in the dataflow.

    Try refreshing all the data sources and re-editing the ones that are having trouble refreshing, that might fix the problem.

    Clear and Reapply Data Source Credentials

    Navigate to the Settings of the dataflow in Power BI Service.
    Under Data Source Credentials, clear credentials for all data sources listed (even for active tables).
    Reapply credentials only for the remaining tables in the dataflow.
    Refresh the dataflow and verify if the residual credentials are gone.

     

    Recheck the Dataflow in Power Query Editor

    Open the dataflow in Power Query Editor in the Power BI Service.
    Check for any lingering queries or references to the deleted tables that might not be visible in the lineage view.
    Remove or clean up any references to the deleted tables in Power Query.
