Unable to Embed a Power BI Paginated Report (RDL) into a SharePoint page.

Hi Community,

I’m trying to embed a Power BI Paginated Report (RDL) into a SharePoint  page.

What I’ve tried

  • Added the report URL using the SharePoint “Embed” web part
  • The paginated report opens correctly in Power BI Service
  • The same user is already logged into SharePoint Online
  • The user has required permissions on the workspace and report

Expected behavior

Similar to a standard Power BI report (PBIX) embedded using the Power BI web part, I was expecting the paginated report to auto‑authenticate via Azure AD / SSO and load without prompting for credentials.

Actual behavior

When embedded via the Embed web part, the paginated report:

  • Always prompts the user to sign in again
  • Does not reuse the existing SharePoint / Power BI login session

My questions

  1. Is SSO / auto‑login supported for paginated reports when embedded in SharePoint Online?
  2. Is this behavior a known limitation of SharePoint embedding for paginated reports?
  3. Are there any supported workarounds (other than opening the report directly in Power BI Service(which would require a pro-license) or building a custom Power BI Embedded app)?

Any clarification or official documentation references would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Hi @Anusha66

What happens if you embed the pagianted report inside a power bi report, and then put that power bi report on SPO?

Hi @Anusha66

As far as I know, paginated reports don't support SSO when embedded in SharePoint, I can confirm it's a limitation that Microsoft hasn't enabled.

I would advise you to:

  1. Rebuild as a regular Power BI report since SSO will work
  2. Use a direct link instead of embedding

Did it work? 👍 A kudos would be appreciated
