I have created a Power BI Template App that works with a Web API as a data source. The Template app loads sample data successfully when opened. It also provides an option to "Connect your data", which prompts the user to load their own data in template.
Configuration Details:
Parameter: The app requires a token as a parameter.
Authentication Method: Anonymous.
Privacy Level: None.
Issue:
When I try to connect to the data source using the "Connect your data" option, I receive the following error:
This occurs even though the token parameter is correctly set and the data source connection works perfectly in Power BI Desktop.
Steps Taken:
Verified the API endpoint with tools like Postman, and it responds correctly with the provided token.
Ensured the same token parameter works without issues in Power BI Desktop.
Tested different privacy levels and authentication methods, but the issue persists.
Questions:
1. What could cause this issue when the connection works in Power BI Desktop but fails in Power BI Service?
2. Are there specific considerations for Anonymous authentication and token-based API calls in Power BI Template Apps?
3. Is there any additional configuration required in the template app settings to handle this scenario?
I would appreciate any guidance or suggestions to resolve this issue. Let me know if more details are required.
