Token exchange with custom connector

We are creating a multi tenant solution and want to create BI reports for them inside Power BI. I have created some queries in Power BI to perform authentication with a client id and secret and to perform a token exchange.

The M queries are ' too complex' to refresh inside Power BI Service. Therefore I created a custom connector to wrap those queries and be able to get the data for the right tenant with the right credentials.

Can I refresh the data in Power BI service this way (i.e. can I refresh in Power BI Service when I use a custom connector like this)

Or is there another way to execute authentication with a token exchange?

Thanks for your response!

We opted to implement different authentication for BI purposes. So the question has become obsolete for us.

Hi @Joël_de_Jong ,

Please try to use the ways.

One way is to use the On-premises data gateway in personal mode, which allows you to use custom data connectors with the Power BI service. You need to install the gateway on your computer and enable the custom connector support in the gateway settings. You also need to load the custom connector files in a folder that can be accessed by the user running the gateway service. Then, you can publish your Power BI report that uses the custom connector to the Power BI service and configure the scheduled refresh using the gateway as a data source.

Another way is to use the Power BI Dataflows feature, which allows you to create and manage data transformation logic in the cloud. You can create a dataflow that connects to your data source using the custom connector and perform any transformations you need. Then, you can create a Power BI dataset that references the dataflow as a source and publish it to the Power BI service. You can then refresh the dataflow and the dataset separately or together using the Power BI service or the gateway.
