To view a report's data model in Power Bi Service

Is it possible to enable to users to see a report's data model without give them the access to edit it?

I know this is existing: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/transform-model/service-edit-data-models, but our concern is that end-users will do something with the existing data models

Hi, @Anonymous

I am glad to help you.

According to your description, you want to know how to allow users to view a report's data model, but not give them permission to edit it?

If I understand you correctly, then you can refer to my solution.

As mentioned in the document you are following:A user must have write and build semantic model permissions in order to open and edit the corresponding data model in the Power BI service:

It is possible to allow users to view a report’s data model without giving them edit access in Power BI. You can achieve this by using the Viewer role in Power BI workspaces. The Viewer role provides a read-only experience, allowing users to view dashboards, reports, or workbooks without the ability to browse or edit datasets or dataflows.

Users can be assigned the corresponding role in the workspace:

Corresponding permissions can also be assigned to the semantic model so that users can only view the content and not make any changes:

Hi @Anonymous,

Thank you so much for the reply, the goal is totally the same what you havve described, but our goal to give the possiblity to view the model in a way like what we have in Power BI's model view pane. Why? For our end-users it is more easier to understand the models when they see in a visual way.

So this, but without giving them the edit rights.

Hi, @Anonymous

Unfortunately, there is currently no such feature to enable being able to view a semantic model without being able to edit it.

I hope my suggestions give you good ideas, if you have any more questions, please clarify in a follow-up reply.
