This visual has exceeded the available resources - how to increase limit?

Hi,

I have received error with message as below (Power BI web service):

This visual has exceeded the available resources. Try filtering to decrease the amount of data displayed.

Please try again later or contact support. If you contact support, please provide these details.

More details: Resource Governing: This query uses more memory than the configured limit. The query — or calculations referenced by it — might be too memory-intensive to run. Either reach out to your Analysis Services server administrator to increase the per-query memory limit or optimize the query so it consumes less memory. More details: consumed memory 1024 MB, memory limit 1024 MB.

It occurs for specific visualization (table with a lot of quite complicated measures) not for the whole report. It works on Power BI desktop.

I have the pro license. Is it possible to increase RAM memory limit? Do I need premium license? Try to fix "performance" of the report is the only way to resolve this issue?

Thanks in advance.

Hi @kamil2 ,

By my reserch, only Premium capacity can increase the per-query memory limit, you can refer to these articles if you need:  What is Power BI Premium?

How to purchase Power BI Premium,

How to configure workloads in Power BI Premium.

As for fix "performance" of the report, first, you can use Performance Analyzer to examine report element performance, then try to optimize the data model and reduce the size of dataset.

i get the same error and it makes no sense whatsover. My matrix has around 8 measures, but in DAX Studio the query of the whole matrix returns results in 2-3 seconds. How it can hit the memory limit is beyond my imagination. This makes powerbi completely useless when you want to have a visual with 5+ measures as it can crash anytime.

Hi @kamil2

Did you try refreshing your report in PowerBI desktop and noticed how much time does it take to render data?

You will have to fix the report so that it reduces the load on report and renders bit less data, you can have further granularity on sub pages. I had the same issue with few reports and have to fine tune the report as per Microsoft advice.
