This Custom Visual is No Longer Available

Hi all,

For qute some time we use custom visuals on our dashborads and from time to time i am getting "This Custom Visual is No Longer Available. Pleasecontact your administrator for details." message when accessing PBI Apps. This does not have much sense since visual is enabled and can be seen on reports, and even it is visible in Workspace Dasboards. So problem is only in App Dashboard.

Here are some facts that could help in understading a problem:

  • Visual is custom made and it is distributed over PBI orzanizational store
  • Report which hold visual is connected to dataset with live connection
  • Error is show from time to time on App Dashboard, while it always work on Workspace dashboard and in reports (App or Workspace)
  • Selecting "Go to report", "open in focus mode" or "Insight mode" from dashboard app will show visual correctly, while back on app dashboard will be error like on picture.
  • On page refresh visual will render correctly
  • If i go first to Workspace Dasboard and then to App Dashboard visual will render correctly
  • It is always reproducible if going to App Dashboard straight from incognito (private browsing) mode
  • App update  will not solve this problem
  • Uppublish app + publish it again will solve this

Anyone experiencing similar issues? Does anyone have cure for this?

BTW i tried with MS suppport some time ago, they said that this is know issue, and it is happening due to techicall "glich", they did not ofer any kind of workaround.

    Forgot to menition that Tenant settings are not blocking visual in any way.

    HI Anonymous,

    What type of custom visual are you test? Did this appear on specific custom visual or all types of custom visuals?
    If you mean specific custom visuals, I'd like to suggest you contact the visual author to confirm if his visual contains any specific functions that blocked by power bi service security. (e.g. trace local information, access to the web resources...)

      Hi Anonymous 

      Thanks for your reply. This is custom visual build by my organization. 

      We will look into the code. Strange thing is that this is happening sporadically, so visual is working in workspace report, in PBI deskotor, in workspace dahsboard, app report, but only some times it does not work on app dahsboard. 

      By my understanding if there are functions that block PBI security then visual shoul display error all the time.

        HI Anonymous ,

        According to your description, this scenario seems only appears on app side.
        If your custom visual does not contain any functions that request external resources. I think it may be related to internal verification/authorization operations of power bi app itself. I'd like to suggest you open a support ticket to get further support of compatibility issues between app and custom visual.
