The remote server returned an error: (500) Internal Server Error

Hi

When I want to publish a report to a workspace in the Power BI web service with Power BI desktop, I encounter this error.
The issue is summarized as follows.
I cannot publish any new reports to this workspace. But I can update my existing reports in it.
I can publish reports that are not published here to a different workspace.
I would like to request support from those who encounter this problem.

Thanks,error.jpg

Hi @Onur_BI,
Thank you for reaching out to the community forum.

From your error screenshot, we see you are facing "500 Internal Server Error", when you are trying to publish a report to a workspace in the Power BI service from Power BI Desktop. Here are some steps you can try to resolve this issue:

  • Even if you are the owner of the semantic model, check if you have the necessary permissions in the workspace, as specific permissions might be required for publishing new reports. For your reference: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/collaborate-share/service-roles-new-workspaces#workspace-...
  • Large datasets can sometimes cause issues. If your report file is large, consider reducing its size or splitting it into smaller parts.
  • Check if the workspace is assigned to a Premium capacity and has enough resources to handle the new report. For large datasets, ensure the "Large dataset storage format" is enabled in the workspace settings.
  • Try exporting the report as a Power BI template and then reimporting it to resolve potential file corruption issues.

Check both Power BI Desktop and the Power BI service are up to date. Updates can resolve compatibility issues. Additionally, browser or network issues can cause publishing errors, so try using a different browser or network to see if the issue persists.

Thank you @tharunkumarRTK for sharing your valuable insights.

hi @v-ssriganesh

First of all, thank you for your detailed explanation.

However, when I checked the titles you sent, even though I have all the conditions, the problem still persists.

@Onur_BI

1. Are you trying to replace an existing report in power bi service with new version from your power bi desktop?

If yes are you the owner of the corresponding semantic model?

2. Do you have necessary access permissions on this workspace? Workspace contributor role or greater

Please check the permissions and try if you can upload the pbix directly from service.

I have authorization for the 3 titles you wrote. But it still doesn't work.

Pardon! I don't think I understand your reply.

Are you confirming that you have contributor or greater role on the workspace and you are the owner of the semantic model in service is it?

If yes, have you tried manually uploading the pbix file?

I am the owner of the semantic model in the service. I am authorized in the workspace. But I still get the same error. 🙂
