The query referenced column which depends on another column, ... that is not in a valid state.

Hi,

I'm getting this error when viewing my published report in power bi service. However, there are no errors at all in power bi desktop. I checked everything that has to do with this particular column but I was not able to find a solution.

Any idea? Thanks!

Hi @avater4566 ,

Here are a few potential reasons:

1.The dependent column may have been deleted or renamed in the source data. If a column that is referenced by another column is deleted or renamed, the dependent column will also be affected and may no longer be available to the query.

2.There may be a query dependency issue. If there are multiple queries in a Power BI project and one query is dependent on another, there may be issues with the order in which the queries are loaded. This can cause errors if a dependent query is loaded before the query it is dependent on.

3.There may be an issue with the query itself. It's possible that there is an error in the query code that is causing the dependency issue.

4.To troubleshoot this issue, you should review the query code and check for any errors or missing columns. You can also review the data source to ensure that any dependent columns are still present and named correctly. You can also try modifying the query order or loading the dependent query first to see if that resolves the issue.

I've got the same issue as well, what is Power update via WEB update, could you elaborate?

I guess they mean to refresh via web pressing the button in the Semantic Model

Hi @avater4566 ,

During our investigation, we found that someone who had a similar problem to yours in the past was able to solve the issue with the Power Bi update via WEB update.
