The powerbi dashboard is not respecting a filter

We've been having an issue where we have a card and a slicer on the dashboard page. However, the card does not respect the slicer filtering it on first load. Once the slicer has been moved, the card starts respecting the slicer. We don't quite know where the issue is coming from and once we move the slicer, there's no way to replicate the issue.

That is actually a quirk of the slicer implementation.  As you may know, "nothing selected"  is the same as "everything selected".  Except when Power BI starts up - there is actually a difference between "nothing selected yet"  and "nothing selected any more".

Hi @qiyunfeng

I would also just add that when you pin something to a dashboard, it respects what the filter was at the time that it was pinned to the dashboard, so that if it changes in the underlying slicer, it will not show in the dashboard. You will have to repin the item.

Hello Gilbert,

I guess by pin something to the dashboard, it means adding a visual to the dashboard?

Fortunately we haven't had that issues yet since our clients are consummers of the dashboard and they do not do any development of their own. But this is great information that I will keep in mind for clients that do 🙂

Thank you so much!

Hello Ibendlin!

That's a very interesting quirk. Would you be able to elaborate on the difference between "nothing selected yet" and "nothing selected anymore"?

I think i was able to resolve the issue through putting a filter that starts at the beginning of the slicer for the page. However, i'm not sure if there will be regressions done the line. 🙂 I just want to make sure I'm resolving it adequately.

Thank you so much for your help!
