The last refresh attempt failed because of an internal service error.

Failure details: The last refresh attempt failed because of an internal service error. This is usually a transient issue. If you try again later and still see this message, contact support.

Resource Governing: This operation was canceled because there wasn't enough memory to finish running it. Either reduce the memory footprint of your dataset by doing things such as limiting the amount of imported data, or if using Power BI Premium, increase the memory of the Premium capacity where this dataset is hosted. More details: consumed memory 3041 MB, memory limit 3027 MB, database size before command execution 44 MB. I have tried to publish my dashobard with only one visual and few tables but still getting this error. I can successfully refresh report in power bi desktop. The dashboard was refreshing successfully til  mid june and then started failing. I have tried multiple ways for optimization but still same error for whole dashboard with lots of tables and calculations, measures, calculated coloumns etc or with one visual with less calculations and tables. I don't know where the issue is and what the issue is.

Hi @gulerana21

May I know which capacity are you using for Power BI.

And do you have any calculated columns taking lot of memory. Can you try taking off the calculated column and try refreshing once.

Thanks,

Pallavi

Hi Pallavi, Premium Capacity. Yes I have few calculated coloumns in my model and I tried to published and refresh dashboard without these coloumns and measures. The size of my model is 6 MB. I am surprised why I am getting this service failure and memory error message because if there is servce error why other dashboards are getting refreshed and why memory issue even without calculated coloumns, same error and issue.

Hi @gulerana21

Quite surprising that on-demand refresh works but scheduled refreshing doesn't.

Unfortunately there is no direct way to find the root cause. Several trial and error approaches we need to try now.

1.First remove all the calculated columns and see if the scheduled refresh works. I think you have already tried this and did not help

2.Are using any custom hierarchies. I causes memory to increase during the refresh. Remove that and try to refresh

3.Disable the Auto Date/Time option for data loading to eliminate unnecessary date tables

4. Reduce column cardinality wherever possible as it takes more memory
5.Hope data is aggregated to maximum level to reduce the number of rows
Few more questions:
Is it on-premises data?
How many table are being pulled?

Thanks,

Pallavi

HI Pallavi, issue resolved. Issue was the capacity.

Yes, I did. On demand refresh in service is working but scheduled refresh is failing for a couple of weeks. If model is complex, why on demand is wokking or why it was refreshing previuosly. I am really clueless atm.

Hello @gulerana21 ,

if you're enabling auto date time, this may take alot of your memory.
