System requirements for gateway and enabling scheduled refresh

I have the following technical questions:

We are using Power BI Pro to host a dozen of dashboards and would like to know the following:

- What are the basic system requirements to host a gateway? We are currently using a laptop that we switch on during working hours but it's not top notch (12 Gb RAM, i5), connected to a local SQL instance (SQL Standard Edition 2014) and some Excel files hosted on a Google Drive. Refresh takes about 20-30 mins and would like to reduce it.

- Since we use scheduled refresh, it kind of switches off automatically after failed refreshes since we switch off the gateway laptop at end of day. Anyway to brute force keeping the scheduled refresh?

This is for a standard gateway.  If you want to avoid the interruptions, install on a server (or virtual machine) that doesn't shutdown.  Standard gateway works for Pro or Premium users, it doesn't matter.

Do you advise installing the gateway on the same machine that runs my DBMS?

No, that is not required, nor probably recommended as they may content for resources. The server that you have the gateway installed on just needs to be able to reach your dbms.

I see, then I need to buy a server with the sys req described on the link you sent. Can I use that server for other apps or it should host only the gateway?

I recommend that it be only for the gateway.  If your IT provides virtual machines, that is an option as well.  We use VMs for our gateway clusters.
