Supported datasources for a template app

I try to create a template app to share soms data with external Power BI pro users. But i'm not sure which datasources are allowed.

First I tried to create the template app bases on a dataset which uses an on-premises data gateway datasource (SQL server), but this is not supported.

 

On MS's website (https://docs.microsoft.com/en-US/power-bi/service-template-apps-tips) I found out the only supported datasources are "Data sources supported for cloud Scheduled Data refresh are allowed."

 

Question: what does MS means with datasources supported for cloud scheduled refresh?

 

I also tried to use a O-data feed datasource, but it seems this is also not supported (When I try to create the app the next error displays: "Template apps must have one dataset. Please make sure one dataset is included in the app, and try again.")

 

Is an Azure SQL database supported?

    Hi， kvissers 

    ‘Datasources supported for cloud scheduled refresh’ means  the data sources(data that isn't in the cloud) that you don't  need to configure gateway .

    According to the documentation, Azure sql should be supported.

      Hi v-easonf-msft 


      All of my reports using Azure SQL connection and don't use Pb Gateway.

      However, I got the same error message when trying to create the app:

       

      "Template apps must have one dataset. Please make sure one dataset is included in the app, and try again."

       

      Can you help with some tips?

    Here I a again with a MS workflow that results in a dead end and documentation that explains very little and a community site that might as well not exist for all the help it is. Just getting a message saying 

    Not quite done
    Please complete all the fields within the tabs with an asterisk before publishing.

     

    All the fields with asterisks are populated. So where do you go from this dead end?
