Sum a Calculated Column in Power BI (Integrate from Sharepoint List)
Hi - I have been working with Micrsoft Lists and the Integrate to Power BI Option. I have some calculated numeric fields (columns) in my list, but when they get into Power BI, they dont have the Sum (sigma) symbol next to them. I want to report a total on one of these columns. Is there a way to do this? It looks like you cant create measures here either - all data needs to be sourced from the source list? The fields show as numeric type in the list and in List Settings. Thanks in advance!

Hi! That option is really just to quickly protype and visualize the data. For what you want to do, you'll want to import the data into Power BI and create a semantic model.

Thanks. It would be really useful to have the integrated Power BI application able to do some basic things and replicate the behaviours of a column, declared as a number field in the list (eg allow SUM). I'm not sure why Calculated fields should always default to text when using the integrated Power BI functionality.

I just tried to import the data into Power BI Desktop and it imports calculated values as Text data type there too, even though the field (column) is defined as a number in the list. So I would need to chnge the type in transform data to be a number. Perhaps a feature to be added - to interpret the data type for a calculated column as the type defined in the list? Pretty annoying :-). The SUM feature works fine in the integrated solution for non calculated numeric fields.
