Subscriptions with parameters

Is this answer from 6/2020 still valid (subscriptions cannot include parameters).  If so, is the better alternative RLS or Paginated Reports?

    Hi Anonymous ,

In general, the process for subscribing to paginated reports is the same as subscribing to reports and dashboards, but there are a few differences worth noting.

Paginated reports allow you to specify the view of the report people will receive in the subscription by setting the parameters in the subscription pane.

    • Subscriptions can be sent with either the currently selected or default parameters for your report. You may set different parameter values for each subscription you create for your report.

    • If your report author has set expression-based parameters (for example, the default is always today's date), the subscription uses that as the default value. You can change other parameter values and choose to use current values, but unless you explicitly change that value as well, the subscription uses the expression-based parameter.

    Hi Anonymous ,

Now subscriptions still cannot include parameters. But you can vote here.

add parameters to power bi email subscriptions

You can choose according to your situation.

    1. Report Parameter Support for Paginated Report E-Mail Subscriptions are Now Available.
    • To get started, head to one of your paginated reports in Power BI and click on the Subscribe button in the toolbar

    • Youll see a new drop-down menu in your subscription pane that allows you to select one of two values when youre creating your subscription if you have selectable parameters in the report.

    • Now, when your e-mail is delivered to its recipients, it will always reflect the parameter value(s) youd selected to be associated with that particular subscription.

Why would this feature be for paginated reports only? Isn't it generally very useful to be able to create a subscription with parameters specified (not only for paginated reports)?  The alternative is to duplicate a report page with a particular filter configuration and then create a subscription for that, but it's a pretty terrible workaround.
