Snowflake odbc Driver smaller 3.3.0 will be out of support by May 1, 2026

Hi all.

Today we got an email from Snowflake that any client driver version lower than 3.3.0 will be out of support starting for May 1, 2026.

We checked our systems and saw that the service it is still using the version 3.2.2.

Is that anything we can update or will there be an update in the future from MSF in the future?

Thanks in advance for the information.

Hi @Starriver ,

Thank you for reviewing the information and sharing your feedback.

Currently, there is no confirmed timeline for when this change will be available in the Microsoft Fabric service. Updates and improvements are managed by the engineering team and are usually announced through official release notes or roadmap updates once they are finalized.

We suggest monitoring the Microsoft Fabric roadmap and announcements for any news on this enhancement. When a timeline or update is provided, it will be communicated, and you can mark the thread as solved if needed.

Thank you for your understanding. If you have more questions or need further clarification, please let us know.

Thank you.

What about Power BI Desktop? How can we find which version of Snowflake driver does the native connection is using? We are in same boat the snowflake driver version 3.3.0 is nearing its end of support and Snowflake Admin team is flagging one of the business users laptop as its showing in their report the user is using 3.2.2 driver.

Installing the latest Power BI Desktop version also didnt resolve our issue and her machine still shows up in the report?

Anyone else is facing similar issue or has faced in the past? Would love to know how you resolved the issue.

Hi @v-tejrama,

Yes the response from @rohit1991 helped. I am not sure tough, when MSF is planning to update the driver in the Power BI Service. Do you have any timeline regarding this?

Thanks in advance.

Hi @Starriver ,

Thank you for following up. Currently, Microsoft Fabric has not provided a specific date for when the Snowflake ODBC driver will be updated in the Service.
In the meantime, you can continue using the latest driver in Power BI Desktop or through the on-premises gateway to keep your reports functioning. Please check the Microsoft Fabric release notes for any updates on the driver rollout.

Thank you.

Hi @Starriver ,

I wanted to follow up and see if you had a chance to review the information shared. If you have any further questions or need additional assistance, feel free to reach out.

Thank you.

Hi @v-tejrama

Yes, I reviewed the information. The only reason I can't click on the "Accept as Solution" is, that there is no timeline available when MSF will change this in the service. When there is one I can mark this thread a solved.

Hii @Starriver

If you are using Snowflake through Power BI Service (cloud), the ODBC driver is managed by Microsoft and you cannot manually upgrade it. Microsoft updates drivers on the Service side, so you’ll need to wait for an official update before the deprecation date.

If you are using On-premises Data Gateway, then the Snowflake ODBC driver is installed on the gateway machine and you must manually upgrade it to 3.3.0 or higher before May 1, 2026.

So:

  • Service only (no gateway) >> Microsoft will handle the update.

  • Gateway involved >> You must update the Snowflake ODBC driver on the gateway server.
