Snowflake keypair authentification: Internal error Can't convert 12 to proper M credential Type
Hi all,
we are currently working on changing the snowflake authentification method from basic auth to keypair.
When we create a new dataflow (Gen1) using keypair everything works fine and the dataflow can be refreshed without any issues.
If we try to modify an already existing Dataflow the connection works too, the data can be refreshed within power query but if we try to refresh the whole dataflow we get this error message : Error: Internal error Can't convert 12 to proper M credential Type
Does anyone have the same problem and know how to fix it?

Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Community Forum.
In Fabric, go to Data Factory --> Dataflows Gen2 and create a new Snowflake connection with Key Pair. Recreate your queries in the new Gen2 dataflow and validate refresh.

I've got the same problem, except I am creating a gen 1 dataflow from scratch (no gateway). I've tried completely deleting everything snowflake related (gateway connection and the dataflows) and starting again and I still get the same error. The microsoft page I had open is now giving a gateway error, so I'm not sure what's going on with it - https://blog.fabric.microsoft.com/en-nz/blog/snowflake-key-pair-authentication-generally-available?ft=09-2025:date

Delete the existing Snowflake data source credentials from the dataflow settings (or Workspace >> Manage connections), then recreate the connection using Key Pair authentication. If the issue persists, recreate the dataflow with a fresh Snowflake connection, as modifying an existing auth type is not fully supported in Gen1.

Yesterday, I tested everything I could think of regarding connections, but without success.
I think I really need to create all dataflows from scratch instead of changing them. 😕
