Snowflake Connection on Power BI service

We are having issues configuring snowflake connection on Power BI service using Basic authentication. This work on local desktop but when configuring data source in Power BI service it fails with below error.

Can this work without a gateway as it cloud data source? any help on this error and explanation on why this needs a gateway is much appreciated. Thanks

Error Messages -

Failed to test the connection to your data source. Please retry your credentials

Failed to update data source credentials: The credentials provided for the Snowflake source are invalid. (Source at deltadentalins-dev.snowflakecomputing.com;WH_EDPDEV_RPT.)

Note: credentials are correct as they are working on desktop, not sure why error message says invalid

    Hi prateekgs1985 ,

Connecting to Snowflake in the Power BI service differs from other connectors in only one way. Snowflake has a capability for Azure Active Directory (Azure AD), an option for SSO (single sign-on). Parts of the integration require different administrative roles across Snowflake, Power BI, and Azure. You can choose to enable Azure AD authentication without using SSO. Basic authentication works similarly to other connectors in the service.
