Sharing reports with external users in Power BI Embedded Workspace

Hello,

We are planning to use Power BI Embedded (embed for your customers). Most probably we will be using a node type A1 or A2.

1. Are these node types Premium Capacity?

2. Would it be possible to schedule and share paginated reports with external users using this plan?

Thanks.

Power Bi Premium has all the features, the embedded ones and more. That one will let you share with free users or even develop the web app for owning the login.

Power Bi Embedded is limited to specific scenario of the web app.

    I hope that make sense

  • Hi. PowerBi Embedded is NOT a Premium Capacity. It's a dedicated capacity with some similar features, but definitely not the same. For example, you can't share with free users at PowerBi Service (even if they are from the same organization). Sharing with externals it's a configuration at Azure for using B2B. Then you have the licenses that work the same for externals or internals. If you have pro you need pro for the external guest or the internal user.

PowerBi Embedded is a license for embedding the Reports in a Web App Development that will let you own the login for example. Letting you share with any external. However you need to develop the app. You should know there are companies that have already built those kinds of apps to let organizations just purchase and don't develop that from scratch. Example:
    https://azuremarketplace.microsoft.com/en-us/marketplace/apps/pidata.pi-soft-pibi?tab=overview

    https://piconsulting.com.ar/home/aplicaciones/pibi/

Regarding paginated reports it's the same. PowerBi Embedded let you create them, but you can't share them with free users at the PowerBi Service. You can only share to a Pro user because Embedded it's not Premium. Only Premium let you share to free users.

    I hope that helps,

      Thanks for the info.

OK so PBI embedded workspace on its own wont be enough to send report to users without a Pro license (external and internal users).

Therefore if we want to have a workspace which is both PBI embedded and Premium which type of capacity do we need to go for?

      Thanks
