Hi All,
we are facing an issue and we have no idea if it is solvable among the framework of power BI services.
Our company (lets call ourselves: BI provider A) is providing BI services to our partner company (Lets call: Partner company) and we are also collaborating with one other BI partner (BI provider B) who is also creating BI reports to our partner company.
Since BI provider "A" publishing financial information from an accounting system, the other BI partner "B" publishes the data of the production line and such.
BI provider "A" and "B" are two different companies having two different domains workspaces datasets and reports. BI providers have Pro licences.
But we see the opportunity of improving our reports by using some of the datasets / data tables of the other BI provider.
Is it possible to share datasets between two different domains (between BI provider "A" and "B")? eg. BI provider "A" has its own datasets from the accounting system, but we would need some daily refreshing data from the BI provider "B"'s datatables? It would be also important to have the ability to model those datatables (in power query) or adding columns or measures to it. Naturally we should create connections with our dimension tables also.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thx!

Hi. I don't think you can from Power Bi directly. You providers should give access to sources in order to combine your data. However I'm a Bi Provider too. Let me tell you how we solve this. We advice the customer or partner company (the one you are building stuff) to own their data. This means having their own power bi licences. That way everything is created with their domain and you can combine all data involved in their company. Power Bi will let you combine datasets with Composite feature or if you build dataflows in the same tenant you can use them both too.
That's a start. However we don't do that too much. We usually suggest building a data warehouse that should keep the source of truth of every analytics development like a Power Bi report. If the company builds a warehouse you shouldn't have this problem at all ever again.
I hope that make sense.
Happy to help!
