Sharing dashboard to external users - do external users need PowerBI pro license?

Hi everyone,

Here is the background:

My company used to be an independent company when we started subscribing PowerBI pro. I am the main creator, and other 5-6 people are viewer. each of us purchases the PowerBI Pro license with the company's domain, let's say "@123.com"

Recently, our company is acquired by a company called "456"(just for illustration). So we have collegues with email ending @456.com. They don't have any PowerBI license, but they want to see the reports I create. I'm still using the @123.com email.

I've learned how to share to external users by enabling the guest users function and inviting them in Azure. But I still have one question: for the viewers from @456.com, do they need to purchase the PowerBI pro to view my reports? if so, can the payment be arranged under our @123.com admin account, so that we can pay all in once to easily manage it? Or is there any cheaper solutions?

Thanks very much!

Hi @hill ,

If you wish to purchase and assign a license, you will need to meet the following two requirements(refer :https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/admin/service-admin-purchasing-power-bi-pro ):

Prerequisites

1.To purchase and assign licenses in the Microsoft 365 admin center, you must be a member of the global administrator or Billing administrator role in Microsoft 365.

2.To assign licenses in the Azure portal, you must be an owner of the Azure subscription that Power BI uses for Azure Active Directory lookups.

And you could learn more about Power BI premium:

User with Power BI Pro license could share report with people outside my organization, but people outside my organization also need Power Bi pro license.

If people outside my organization with free license and still want to see the report, only when workspace is in Premium capacity  able to achieve.
