Sharing and Building Off Other Reports | How do collaborate correctly?

Hey folks,

Quick question. I'm still relitively new to the BI world. I have my own personal workspace with employees added to it who can see my report/dashboards I've created which are based on resource allocation. A colleauge of mine has a SEPERATE workspace with data on all our employees, projects, clients, all REAL TIME. He has added me as an admin to his workspace.

Instead of using the static excel spreadsheet as a source, I'd instead like to connect to my colleague's dataset and build a basic report off of his data while staying in sync with his refresh cycle.

He does not yet have a VM available to automate the once a day refreshes for his report, so he refreshes it manually.

My question: IS there a way for me to create a report/dashboard off of his data which he refreshes daily in his workspace? Can I bring that data/report into my Workspace? I've never had to collaborate with other Power BI developers so I don't exactly know how this would work.. would appreciate any input here.

Thank you!

In Power Bi service, you can create multi reports by the same dataset, However you cannot create one report by using different dataset. One way to work around, there is a preview feature of power BI, you can connect to mutiple dataset in one report when  you use DirectQuery for Power BI datasets and Azure Analysis Service.

You can try the following operation with this feature:

    • Connecting to data from various sources: Import (such as files), Power BI datasets, Azure Analysis Services
    • Creating relationships between different data sources
    • Writing measures that use fields from different data sources
    • Creating new columns for tables from Power BI datasets of Azure Analysis Services
    • Creating visuals that use columns from different data sources

If you still have some question about how do collaborate correctly, please don't hesitate to let me known.‌‌

Anonymous Yes, with the proper tenant settings and permissions you can use Get data in Desktop and then Power BI Dataset to connect Live to your colleague's dataset.

I was able to easily connect to the Shared Power BI Dataset - is there a way for me to add additional sources to (Static Datasets) the report? It shows that get data is greyed out after bringing in my colleagues dataset.
