Sharing a Snowflake table as a semantic model
Hi,
I would like to share a Snowflake table to the Power BI service as a semantic model to allow Power BI users to create reports based on that semantic model. I have set up the Snowflake connection by desginating a role, a warehouse, etc. and created the model in a shared Workspace to which the users would have access. We have also set up the SSO on Power BI service with Snowflake.
My question is: Do I need to also create users and specific roles in Snowflake in order for the users to have access to the semantic model? If so, can the role be different than the role I used to create the connection for the semantic model? Tks!

As far as I am away, yes it is possible to use an SSO connection to Snowflake using direct query, which will then after the user's credentials through to Snowflake. You will just have to also make sure that those users do have the right permissions on Snowflake in order to run direct queries. Connect to Snowflake with Power BI - Power BI | Microsoft Learn

Thank you. So it does sound like whether through import or direct query, I'll need to set up a user and a role in Snowflake as well...

If you decide to use Snowflake SSO, Make sure the Snowflake SSO setting is enabled in the Tenant portal under integration settings.I hope this information helps. Please do let us know if you have any further queries.
