Service dataset wont update

We have a stable dataset in our PBI service.

As of Friday, we now get the following error during its scheduled update:

The last refresh attempt failed because of an internal service error. This is usually a transient issue. If you try again later and still see this message, contact support.

We have tried to manually force the update but its not working.

We have other workspaces (UAT and Pre-Prod) where we have successfully updated the dataset using the same model. However when we try and update the prod version we get the error above.

Is PBI intuative enough that if we delete the service dataset and reupload it, it wont break the reports?

    Hi macrozed ,

For this type of error message, you can try to remove the broken reports from the Online service and re-add them.

    Refer to the following steps:

    • Open the report(s) in PBI Desktop and clear the cache (file...options and settings... options)
    • Refresh the data in the desktop and save.
    • Open PBI Online and remove the associated dataset(s). Note - you'll need to remove the reports from any content packs before you can remove the reports and data from the online service. Also you might want to make a note of the (failed) refresh schedule you had before doing this so you can recreate it exactly.
    • Hop back to PBI Desktop and publish the report from PBI Desktop to Online
    • Hop back to PBI Online and set the refresh schedule back up
    • Add the reports back into any apps or content packs.

If the problem is still not resolved, please provide detailed error information and related screenshoots info. Looking forward to your reply.

    Best Regards,
    Henry

Transient issue mostly occure due to network drop, have you tried to refresh your dataset at different time slot

if still not sucess I would suggest to log a ticket with MS they will be able to track based on Activity ID

    Support | Microsoft Power BI

Do not delete and republish the report as it will update the report & dataset ID that will break all the dependent reports if any.
