Semantic model uses default data connection - semantic model connecting to data warehouse

I have a semantic model in Power BI that I want to add a table to from a data warehouse. It refreshes on my desktop just fine, but when I publish it to the online version it gives me this error:   ...

    torishriver To fix this error just follow the below steps

    1. Go to Dataset -> Settings 

    2. Under the Settings you can find Gateway and Cloud Connections

    3. Click Create Connection 

    4. Under here you have to create a new connection and provide your SQL Server string and your credentials, authenticate it and click Create (located at the bottom)

    5. Once created go back to your dataset settings and under Gateway and Cloud Connections choose"New_Connect" (in my case) 

    6. Now you should be able to refresh the model

Hi! I am assuming that your new data source is either on prem or is online but your company is choosing to require a gateway. If you connected to an Excel file using the Excel connector or a csv file using csv/text connector or folder using folder connector these would all require a gateway. You can set up a personal gateway and then your computer will have to be on and the gateway will have to be on for teh refresh in service to work. If you did use one of teh above mentioned connectors, you could swap to the online versions like Web, SharePoint folder, etc.
