Seeking Guidance on Programmatically Adding Contacts to Power BI Reports

Hello Power BI Community,

 

Our team is currently facing a challenge regarding the management of access requests within our BI Team.
Specifically, we have identified that the current process, which relies on a single developer as the point of contact for all access requests to published reports, is leading to delays and inefficiencies.

 

To address this issue, we are exploring the possibility of programmatically adding our BI Developer Group as a contact on the report level for all published reports. This would streamline the access request process and ensure that requests are directed to the appropriate team member for prompt resolution.

 

However, despite extensive research, we have been unable to find any REST API that supports changing the contact information on report level. Therefore, we are reaching out to the Microsoft Power BI Community for guidance and insights on potential solutions or alternative approaches to achieve this objective.

 

Any advice, recommendations, or shared experiences from the community would be greatly appreciated.

    Based on your description, Power BI does not directly support changing contact information at the report level through the REST API.The REST API provided by Power BI focuses primarily on dataset, report, and dashboard operations, such as create, delete, and update. However, you can manually set a report or dashboard contact to any user or group. Although this is not done programmatically, it is an easy way to ensure that the BI Developer group is set as the contact.
