Securely Embed Reports in a Custom Web Portal

I would like to allow users to access Power BI reports once logged into my companies custom web portal. The user login information is stored in a database and the users are not part of our Office365 environment. From what I can see there are two options:

- Publish to a website or portal, this won't work because the users don't have Office365 accounts to authenticate against

- Publish to the web (public), this would work but someone could easily copy and paste the link for the report and share it, which we don't want.

I basically need a way to authenticate user access to the report through a custom login, not through Office365. Does anyone know if this is possible?

    Hi, Anonymous

According to your description, I think the most suitable way is to use the powerbi report server. You can publish reports on-premises. It apply governance on your own terms, with Power BI Report Server. Build your BI environment on-premises and distribute reports behind your organization’s firewall.

Reference:Download Microsoft Power BI Report Server - January 2021 from Official Microsoft Download Center

Install Power BI Report Server - Power BI | Microsoft Docs

If it doesn’t solve your problem, please feel free to ask me.

    Best Regards

Hi! The way you need is only feasible through Power Bi Embedded App Owns Data where you would need to go for Embedded Capacity licenses which is expensive. In case it is not an issue you may use the Publish to Web and use the HTML Embed , put them in your application on Button actions and have an iframe render those. That way non-tech savvy users are not able to see the links and it works pretty much like actual embed.

The users who are Tech and able to see Page Source may still be able to pull out the URLs.
