Section in section to separate the report in power bi service

A Power BI report that I have published on the service comes with a premium workspace.

made an application for it.

I want to make a folder inside of a folder and save the relevant documents within.

for example.

report consisting 18 pages as follows,

  1. Overview OR
  2. Overview Rev
  3. Orders On Hand
  4. Segment per Product – OR/Rev
  5. Segment per Product – Rev/ConsGP
  6. Segment per Entity – OR/Rev
  7. Segment per Entity – Rev/ConsGP
  8. ConsGP – Product
  9. ConsGP – Subregion (Advanced)
  10. ConsGP – Subregion
  11. Sales Development – Order Size Graph
  12. Sales Development – Order Size
  13. Sales Development – New Product Families Details
  14. Sales Development – New Product Families
  15. Sales Development – Customer
  16. Trend Analysis – FC
  17. Trend Analysis – Actuals
  18. Trend Analysis
  • What I want to create is a folder inside the program, and the corresponding page should be stored in that folder.

Overview – OR/Rev/OOH

  • Overview OR
  • Overview Rev
  • Orders On Hand

Segment – OR/Rev/ConsGP

  • Segment per Product – OR/Rev
  • Segment per Product – Rev/ConsGP
  • Segment per Entity – OR/Rev
  • Segment per Entity – Rev/ConsGP

ConsGP

  • ConsGP – Product
  • ConsGP – Subregion (Advanced)
  • ConsGP – Subregion

Sales Development

  • Sales Development – Order Size Graph
  • Sales Development – Order Size
  • Sales Development – New Product Families Details
  • Sales Development – New Product Families
  • Sales Development – Customer

Trend Analysis

  • Trend Analysis – FC
  • Trend Analysis – Actuals
  • Trend Analysis

I experimented with many solutions, but I was unable to find a way to add a section within another section.

For every page, I made eighteen dashboards which are as follow,

  • Overview – OR/Rev/OOH
  • Segment – OR/Rev/ConsGP
  • ConsGP
  • Sales Development
  • Trend Analysis

and then the appropriate dashboard was moved into the appropriate sections.

However, there was a problem where I was unable to use the drillthrough functionality.

I’d appreciate any insights or suggestions to resolve this issue. Thanks in advance!

Your job as a report developer is to put as few clicks between the user and the insights that allow them to take action.

Fewer clicks, not more.

Simplify your reports, use separate reports. Use separate apps if needed.

Hi @lbendlin,

Is any other way to do sections in section.

As I am using single dataset for all reports

Please don't make the UX worse.

Thank you for your response!

  • I understand the importance of simplifying reports and minimizing the number of clicks for users to access insights. This would help in navigating through the pages more effectively without cluttering the view for users.

To clarify,

I'm using a single dataset for 5 reports and have created 5 separate audiences within a single app.

For one of these reports, I’m trying to organize the pages into sections within sections to better structure the content and separate the respective pages logically.

Previously,

I tried a different approach: I created 18 separate dashboards, each corresponding to a report page. Then, using the "Add Content" option in the app, I added these dashboards and created sections, moving the respective dashboards into each section.

This method worked in terms of organizing the dashboards, but I faced challenges, particularly with losing the drill-through functionality between pages.

I’d like to know if there’s a way to implement sections within sections in Power BI, so I can move the relevant report pages into their respective sections and maintain full functionality, including drill-through.

Any guidance would be much appreciated!

Thanks again for your insights.
