I use visual matrix to demonstrate information of work items (from Azure Devops). Data is displayed in 3 hierarchies in Power BI Desktop but in the Power BI app only 2 hierarchies are presented. I don't use any measure in this matrix.
I used two work items types in the matrix: Bug and Task, which are related in the data model.
The hierarchy used (lines) is as follows:
1) Task Closed Date (yyyymm)
2) Bug Area Path
3) Task Work Item Id
The first figure presents the matrix displayed in the Power Bi Desktop the second one presents the matrix displayed in the Power BI app.
Could you help me to solve this problem?
Hi there,
I had the same issue. Resetting the dashboard worked for me.
Hi @MiluMazzoni ,
Please check in Power BI Desktop if the options marked in the figure below are checked.
If so, please try unchecking Hide the Visual Header in Reading View and republish.

Hi @Anonymous
This option was already checked as you showed.
Please, see the screenshot below,
Thanks.
Regards.
Can you update your screenshots so that both include the visual header with the drill up/down/expand icons?
Here is the screenshots.
OK but we need the screenshot in the service too!
Ok, thanks.
Here is the screenshot in the service.
Looks like you need to click on the Expand button to get to the deepest level of your hierarchy, like you have it in Power BI Desktop:
I have done that and the problem persists. I also have tried enabling drill down and it didn't work either.
You need to click again on Expand until the Expand icon is greyed out (no longer clickable). In your screenshot the Drill Up icon is greyed out, showing that you haven't drilled down through your hierarchy.
You can also save the drilled and expanded state in Power BI Desktop in a bookmark, then apply that bookmark in the service.
Hi @otravers,
Thank you very much for your attention and tips.
But unfortunately I had already done what you described in power bi service and power bi desktop.
In the Power Bi Service, I clicked on the Expand icon several times and it stays the same way (clickable and not greyed out).
I think it must be a configuration issue because the problem of not expanding the hierarchy doesn't happen to other people in my organization.
Regards
This is weird and looks like an outright bug. I use hierarchies all the time and never ran into this behavior. Even the bookmark doesn't work?
Is the bookmark the drilldown icon?
Neither the drilldown icon nor the "+" or "-" sign works.
Bookmark is another feature which will let you save the drill down status in Power BI Desktop, then apply it in the Power BI service:
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/create-reports/desktop-bookmarks
I hadn't used the bookmark.
This is weird because other persons use the same report/visual that I published and the hierarchies work.
I forget this: On PC of other colleagues this problem doesn't happen.
