Scorecard Visuals Enhancement
Good day,
i require some ideas on enhancing a KPI scorecard that exists of 10 KPI frames, each frames has a primary and secondary kpi including 2 main graph visuals (300w x 150h), and each overall frame is 400w x 300h), but i now have a clustered view with detail being tiny
1. i know theres not on frame hover the frame border highlights to indicate hover or frame focus - any ideas?
2. also thinking of visual over zoom in on visual to enlarge it?
3. want to add a table below, which will be 3rd big visual on a kpi frame (inc the 2 graph visuals) to show variances as my team does not use buttons well and mosyty info is stacked in the tooltip or hover on visual?
Doesss anyone have any ideas or am i doing to much, small org, maturity low, so im trying to balance it with helping but still exec view etc

Based on my understanding, between the options you outlined, Option A - Custom tooltip for zoom with a variance table is technically clean and well designed. However, in day to day usage, important details can be missed because the information appears only on hover and keeps changing as the mouse moves. This reduces quick glance understanding and generally works better for more experienced users.
Option B - Explicit zoom or magnify action within the KPI frame feels more aligned with typical user behaviour. Even though it requires a click, a clearly visible magnify icon or View details indicator is easier for users to notice than hover only interactions. Expanding the KPI into a focused view with readable labels, a variance table, and a clear close action also helps users stay in context without forcing full page navigation.
Suggested approach is - keep the main scorecard as a clean, high level overview by showing one KPI value with a simplified trend ,minimal labels, no Y axis. For deeper analysis, allow users to click the KPI to drill through or expand using a bookmark-style interaction, where the same KPI is shown with clearer visuals and a supporting variance table. Placing multiple visuals per KPI on the main page can dilute focus and reduce the scorecard's ability to highlight issues quickly.
As optional enhancements, native features like Focus mode can be used to temporarily enlarge visuals, and custom tooltip pages can provide short variance explanations or key drivers.

Keeping the main frame clean with KPIs in one row and a single simple chart (few measures, no extra labels) will make it easy to read. For more details, a clear Details button that opens a focused view with charts and a variance table is better than adding more visuals or depending on tooltips.

This depends on what you are showing on each visual you refer that you have two main graphs but it does not refer the type of viualization, for example if you are using a line chart with a continuous axis this may be enough if you are refering to bar axis maybe not that much.
Also the size of the page is also important are you using the standard 16X9 or the 1920X1080 this will increase significantly the size of your canvas.
A couple other thing you may check:
- Titles and values of axis
- Sometimes Y-axis may be removed if you apply labels
- X-Axis check if you have long categorie names or reduced name (example if it's based on months consider using short month names)
- Markers and lables
- Try to no show all the labels but just the top and minimum value
- Check the padding of the visuals you can gain some space
- Titles and subtitles
- New card visualization allow for a lot of flexibility
- Custom tooltips can give you additional space since additional information will appear on hover and not on the page itself
Overall it depends on your design and what you want to share with your users.

- Mostly line charts as the tooltip is much better but theres bar and line but the tooltip is not good
- I have a custom page width and set my screen view to fit to width which allows for scrolling vertical only
- i want to add a table to show var becuase my users dont have the year by month view of the variances unless they over over viusal individual month
- i want the focus to appaear on hover and not def setting the focused frame
So i guess this is where my thinking is coming, perhaps make it bold with only the key/primary kpi but more compact the KPI but almost like a scroll once selected a zoomed view of the KPI pops up with next kpi or close curr zoomed to go back to not zoomed view where the zoomed view gives the user the more detail of 3 visuals v+ var over time in table etc
Is more like having each KPI's detailed page pop up and grey the background for non selection with 80% window bing the detail activated by mouse over the kpi frame (pref) or detail/zoom button. With Close Zoom or Next buttons to go to next kpi detail view or primary high level nmot zoomed viw wehn closing
Sorry thinking out loud, trying to picture sounds great but can i do it with powerbi?

You could do this using bookmarks you would need to have one bookmark for each of the KPI's, to simplify the creation of the visualization and you don't have to generate has many visuals has you have in terms of KPIs so 3 times the number of KPI's you could use Field parameters to change the calculations on each of the visual so it would be kinda of dynamic.
But be in mind that Bookmarks are very difficult to maintain.

Another option that you may also try is the drill trough page, that would be much easier to maintain and keep a good option and has easier to maintain in the future.

The main issue here is that too many visuals are squeezed into a small KPI frame, so everything ends up looking cramped. Power BI does give some built in options like Focus Mode to quickly enlarge a visual and custom tooltip pages to show extra details on hover, but these still don't fix the problem when multiple charts and a table need to fit in one small space. Because of this, the simplest and most user friendly approach is to keep your first page as a clean KPI overview and then create a separate KPI Detail page where each visual can be shown much bigger along with your variance table. This keeps the overview neat for executives while still giving your team all the detailed information in a clear, easy way.
