I have as data source a Postgresql DB that is hosted in Google Cloud. It lets me take the data source without problems but when I make a publication in power bi service and try to edit the data source credentials I get the following error:
Data source credentials could not be updated: An error occurred while reading data from the supplier: 'A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond'
Does anyone know how to solve this?
Hi @AndresEsteban ,
I want to validate the valuable input provided by @sergej_og . Their initial thoughts helped guide my approach. However, I noticed that more detail was needed to fully understand the problem.
Local data gateways act as a bridge, providing fast and secure data transfer between local data (data not in the cloud) and multiple Microsoft cloud services. By using a gateway, organizations can keep databases and other data sources on their local network while securely using that local data in cloud services.
More information can be found at: On-premises data gateway - Power BI | Microsoft Learn

First, thank you for your response. To be more specific I tell you: right now my postgresql database is a dedicated resource in Google Cloud, so yes it is in cloud. What I am doing is with this database taking it as data source for my reports in power bi desktop. In this step I can connect it as a data source without problems. However, when I publish the report n epower bi service and try to schedule an update is where I have the problems. In the gateway part it tells me the following, i.e. that I do not need a gateway for this data source:
The problem comes when it asks me for the credentials of the data source
When I edit the credentials and add the user and password I get the error I indicated in the initial query: Data source credentials could not be updated: An error occurred while reading data from the supplier: 'A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond'
Hi @AndresEsteban ,
Here are some suggestions that I hope will help you.
1. Verify firewall and network settings. Ensure that the Google Cloud PostgreSQL database is configured to accept connections from the IP address of the Power BI service. You may need to adjust your firewall settings to allow these connections. More details can be found at the link: Configure public IP | Cloud SQL for PostgreSQL | Google Cloud.
2. If the connection is configured to use SSL, ensure that all required certificates are properly installed and configured in the PostgreSQL database and Power BI service. For more details, see the link: PostgreSQL: Documentation: 16: 19.9. Secure TCP/IP Connections with SSL.

Hello @Anonymous
First, thank you for your help. I have some doubts about your recommendations:
How do I know the IP used by Power BI Service so I can configure it in my database connection?
Thank you
Do you have any firewall restrictions to get to your DB - secured environment?
I assume you use cloud connection within the gateway section to configure update of semantic model?
Regards
I am not using any constraints at the moment as it is a test environment to do this test.
As for the gateway no, I have not configured gateway.
