Scheduled Refresh Fail. Personal Gateway Offline. No Onprem Data???

So, I woke up this morning and turned my computer on. I had a few emails from PBI.com letting me know my scheduled refresh failed overnight because my Personal Gateway was offline. I'm confused because my dataset doesn't have any connections to onprem data via my laptop. All three data connections are in the cloud (Google Drive, Azure SQL, and Oracle Server) I thought the point of the personal gateway was to allow my onprem data to be served up to pbi.com.

Could it be the Oracle data source? It is a corporate resource. The connection looks like this: 

http://czexXXelvm01.prg-dc.XXX.com:19000/aps/XMLA

Am I misunderstanding the purpose of the Personal Gateway and how it works?

Well, just because your Oracle server is in the cloud does not mean that the cloud gateway is configured to connect to it. In fact, I am betting it is not because it does not have Oracle drivers installed on it. You will likely need a Personal gateway with the appropriate drivers installed to refresh.

Greg, first, thank you for taking the time to help. I really appreciate it.

• I misspoke a bit, I'm using the Essbase connector to connect to Essbase Cube data source. Oracle is our financial system that feeds our Essbase cube. So, Oracle was a bit of a red herring here. Sorry.
• Since I logged on this morning, the scheduled refreshes ( I have three reports/datasets) are refreshing perfectly (every hour). So, I think we can conclude  that things are configured correctly
• So, why is my Personal Gateway a factor in whether or not my Schedule Refreshes work with Personal Gateway but do not work without it? Hmmm. Does it have to do with the fact that the Essbase connection is authenticating through Windows (my logon info) maybe?

I guess so, Essbase connection needs a window authentication to connect with data.
