Hi all,
I was recently tasked with researching and implenting Power Bi within my orgnaization to provide user friendly and data-accurate reports. One of the thing we do as an organization is run month-end reports to have an overview of how the month went numbers wise. My supervisor has asked me to research wether or not we are able to export reports with the month-end data each month to save for historical use and still being able to use the drill down features of a matrix. I have tried researching this but, I believe it might be better to explain in in my own words. Can someone confirm if this is possible?
Thank you
As long as you don't hit Refresh on the report/dataset, then it will keep the historical data and not update. We do this in my organization at month end with one of the accounting datasets. It is downloaded and then republished with a new name and the new dataset is not given any gateways, so it could not possibly be refreshed. Then any users with access to the workspace can access the historical data in the report format. It is a very clunky solution, though, because you have multiple old datasets and reports cluttering up the workspace...it's the best we've found though.
I am goiing to do a trial run with this method. Hopefully one day they will add data snapshots to Power BI. Thank you for your response!
