Hi,
I'm new to Power BI. On the Power BI website, it has "Solutions/Industries/Insurance". That page made me think there was a sample database and/or template for insurance. But, I don't see one in the samples. Is there one and/or does anyone have one to share I can use as a starting point?
Thanks in advance,
Rich
Hi @rscivetti ! You can take a look at these free Power BI templates. They are well-designed and might be a great starting point for your project: https://vidi-corp.com/free-power-bi-templates/
They come with professional layouts that are easy to modify, so you can adjust the visuals and pages to suit exactly what you need.
Hi @rscivetti
You're right to think that the Power BI website's "Solutions > Industries > Insurance" section suggests industry-specific templates or examples, but unfortunately, Microsoft does not provide an official sample dataset or pre-built Power BI template specifically for the insurance industry in the same way they do for sales, finance, or retail (like the AdventureWorks or Financial sample). That section is more of a marketing showcase, highlighting how Power BI can be used in the insurance sector, rather than offering downloadable content.
However, you're not out of options. Many users and consultants have shared community-created templates, dashboards, and datasets tailored for insurance use cases—such as claims analysis, policy tracking, customer retention, and risk profiling—on sites like Microsoft AppSource, GitHub, or Power BI Community forums. You can search these platforms for terms like “insurance dashboard Power BI sample” to find starter files. Alternatively, you can build your own by starting with generic data models (like customer and transaction tables) and tailoring them to insurance logic.
If you're just starting out, try sketching a simple structure with mock tables like Policies, Claims, Customers, and Agents, and use Excel to simulate data. This can be a great learning exercise while you search for more industry-specific templates.
Hi @rscivetti,
Do you mean you want to get sample data or template for this report: https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/industries/insurance/ , right?
I'm afraid we are not able to get sample data for this report. It's just a report style for our look. But we can find those visuals which have displayed in the report. They are Filled Map, Combo Chart and Treemap. You can take a look at articles below to begin your tour with Power BI:

If you have any quetsion, please feel free to ask.
Best Regards,
