SSAS tabular PBI Service datasource on AWS ec2

I have an office 365 E5 subscription with several user accounts created at portal.office.com
I spun up an AWS ec2 instance, joined it to the o365 domain (***.onmicrosoft.com) with AWS AD, installed a SQL SSAS instance, and can RDP/login to the ec2 with the domain admin account created in the domain join process.
I installed PBI gateway on the ec2 and can connect to that gateway from the PBI Service.

PROBLEM - In the ec2 SSAS, trying to grant privileges to the UPN that is passed from PBI Service to the gateway, I can't find the o365 account in the directory. I think this is the only missing piece to use AWS ec2 SQL SSAS tabular instance as a PBI Service live data source.

Does anyone know how to add the o365 account to the ec2/SSAS instance?

Thank you for the response. The PBI Service seems to recognize and register the gateway on the vm with no problem. The problem occurs trying to pass a UPN from the service that SSAS doesn't recognize.

Is there any technical explanation of why the vm would be the problem?
