SSAS impersonation

Hi, Trying to confirm whether you connect to SSAS source, choosing import / live connection is the same method of authentication from power bi service through the gateway, by using impersonation (effective user / upn) same for both?. thank you

  • Hi there,

As far as I understand that will only work with LiveConnection.

Any data imported into the model will be authenticated against the model in the Power BI Service, which will then use the UPN of the user.

Hi there, it will use the Account that you have configured in the Power BI Gateway to import the data into your Power BI Model.

So ensure that this same user has the rights to read data from your SSAS Cube.

I'll re-phrase my question, If you have SSAS Import source, and are doing a refresh through the gateway, does it use the UPN of the person performing/configuring the refresh against the SSAS security model? or the service account configured on the gateway?
