Row level security in SharePoint not working
Hi folks
For a dashboard I have in desktop Power BI.
- I created a Role called "DRLS" which filters the data: [Submitter.email] = UserPrincipalName()
- In desktop when I View as I correctly only see the rows I should.
- I publish to Power BI Service and in that service I add people to role "DRLS".
- I right click on DRLS and choose Test as role. Works great.
- I embed the report in a SharePoint page as a PowerBI webpart.
- People go to the SharePoint page but row level security does not work: they see all rows.
This is quite puzzling. Other posts here suggest I do the above steps so any thoughts on what step I'm missing?
Regards
Duncan
Please be more specific. Are these "People" members of the workspace, and if yes, do they have Editor roles or higher?

Otherwise, you may refer to this link How to Setup Row Level Security (RLS) in Microsoft Power BI (key2consulting.com) for a detailed guidance on two ways to setting RLS in Power BI. When using UserPrincipalName() in RLS rules, you will need to include all the users' UPN in a table in the data model in advance or it will not work on the Service.
Additionally, RLS does not work when users are members who have edit access or higher of the report workspace.
