Restricting User-Level Access in Power BI Workspace and Subfolders

Scenario:

Workspace Name: Testing
Admin: Dinesh

Requirements:

  1. Subfolder: Retail

    • User: Sanjeeva
    • Role: Contributor/Viewer (User needs access to Retail subfolder only)
    • Subfolder: Auto

      • User: Sanjay
      • Role: Viewer (User needs access to Auto subfolder only)

        Expected Behavior:

        1. Sanjeeva (Contributor/Viewer) should only have access to the Retail subfolder and should not see or access the Auto subfolder.
        2. Sanjay (Viewer) should only have access to the Auto subfolder and should not see or access the Retail subfolder.
        3. Dinesh (Admin) should be able to see and manage all subfolders within the Testing workspace and perform all admin activities.

Hi. Folders at power bi are a preview feature. For now, they only help organizing content. Folders can't handle permission distribution. You can't use them as a way of building rules of sharing with people. If something change it will be shown in the following link:

The way of working with users is the same as always. When you share workspace they can see it all and it's recommended for those who can edit/develop inside the workspace, the whole workspace and folders. Then you can share with viewers picking exactly the things you want as rules using Power Bi App Audiences:
