Republishing overwrites reports in Service

Hello,

I build and develop a dataset in PowerBI Desktop and publish it into PowerBI Service. However, I like to build and modify the actual reports in Service. It is so much easier and faster to make small adjustments in service as per request of my colleagues.

Until now republishing the modified dataset hasn’t been a problem as long as the dataset report is having a different name compared to the Service report.

However this has recently changed (in August or July) and now republishing the dataset report is overwriting the Service reports, even if they have a different name. I have also tested changing the page names and it is still overwriting them!

How do I prevent this from happening or work around it? Maintaining all the reports in Desktop is not an option. A small change I can make in 1 minute in Service would take 30 – 45 minutes in Desktop (opening the application, making and saving changes, publishing and refreshing). Stopping all the further development of the dataset won’t do either…

hi, @Satu

Do you try to rename the name of the report in power bi service, I test it and it won't be overwrited.

Best Regards,

No,

It worked earlier like this, but not anymore.

In Desktop I have a report named "Laskurivit Dafosta" and it overwrites a report "Laskurivit" in Service. I now tried changing the Service report name again into "Laskurivit-uusi" and republished. It still got overwritten by "Laskurivit Dafosta".
