Report vs. Dashboard on workspace

Hello,

I have seen the question posed a couple times but not exactly in the wording that answered my questions. I am new to the PowerBI workspace and have only previously uploaded .pbxi files to an on premise report server.

Today I uploaded a .pbix file to my work space and it created 3 visible objects (1. Dataset (expected), 2. Report, 3. Dashboard).

When I open the report and dashboard objects they are the same. My question is what is the difference and why did PowerBI automatically create these seperate objects? It seems redundant to allow both to exist.

Thanks!

Hi @Anonymous ,

a dashboard should not be created automatically.

Take a look at this.

Hi @Anonymous

Reports and dashboards are created manually by you, and data sets are automatically generated by PBI Service by using your data model.

Reports and dashboards have different application scenarios, for more, please refer to this:

Intrestingly enough when I uploaded my .pbix file they were both automatically created. It may have something to do with the fact that one of my report pages had the word "dashboard" in it? Regardless thanks for the think it was helpful!
