Report not accessable "Unfortunately a problem has occurred"

Hi all,

I published a report two days ago and ever since then people are getting an error while trying to access my reports.

All of my reports are connected to a local datagateway which is on the newest version. Admins of the workspace can see the reports but users with view rights can't, so I don't think the gateway is broke in some way? I also tried a new workspace - same problem.

fyi: I need the gateway to get data from our sql server.

Thanks a lot in advance if anyone has any ideas I would really appreciate it since I have literally no idea how to fix this.

If anyone still manages to stumble across this post, the solution is kind of embarrassing 😄 I just forgot to add the users to a RLS group, therefore everyone with elevated rights could see the reporting.

How is your report shared? What type of a workspace you have?(Premium, PPU, Pro)?

Thanks for your reply.

I'm using a Pro workspace and I tried sharing the report in different ways:

add user to a single report -> didn't work, gets error

share a link with user -> didn't work, gets error

If I add a user as a contributor to the workspace -> can see the report.

I hope this could answer your questions.

Best regards

Ok. I also assume that the report consumers have a Pro license and that they have a BUILD permission on the dataset, right?

Also can they see the report in the "Shared with me" section in Power BI service?

Yes, they have a Pro license and if they have the build permission on the dataset, they can see the report.

Yes, they can see the report in the "Shared with me" section.

I mean the minimum they have to have is the Read permission on the dataset.

they all have read permission on the dataset but they are still getting the error, if I give them the build permission too, it works but they shouldn't have the build permission

One thought - is the dataset by any chance a composite dataset?

yes it is, directquery and a .xlsx located in a sharepoint, could this be the problem?

It is. See the article below. There was a "fix" for Premium and PPU workspaces so that the report consumers only require "read" permissions for all of the datasets.

For Pro it's still BUILD permissions they need to have.

Update to required permissions when using composite models on a Power BI dataset | Microsoft Power B...

Kind of weird, hope there will be changes in the near future but thank you so much!!!!!!!
