Report has Direct Access and Specific People Link but anyone within organization can view

Hi!

I have a report that I'm trying to share with only specific people in my organization, and I'm having difficulties acheiving that result.

The report previously had a link that granted anyone within my organzation read-only access, but I've deleted that link from the permissions menu. I have created a new link using the "Specific People" option as well as added those users in the "Direct Access" section, but users who are not on either list still have access to view the report.

Am I going about this the wrong way? Do permission settings take a while to take effect?

Hi @tyswizzle,

It sounds like you are taking the correct steps to restrict access to your Power BI report. However, there are a few additional things you can check to ensure that the new permissions are properly applied.

Firstly, ensure that you have saved and published the changes to the report permissions. It is possible that changes made to the permissions may not take effect immediately, so it may be necessary to wait a few minutes before attempting to access the report again.

Secondly, verify that the users who still have access to the report are not members of a group or security role that has been granted access to the report. If this is the case, you will need to modify the group or role permissions accordingly to restrict access to the report.

Finally, ensure that the users who should have access to the report are correctly added to the "Specific People" list or the "Direct Access" section. Double-check that you have entered their email addresses correctly and that there are no typos or errors.

If you have tried these steps and are still experiencing issues with restricting access to your Power BI report, you may need to reach out to Microsoft support for further assistance.
