Report doesn't load on newly uploaded datasets

This is an odd one that is hitting me as well as a number of my students and at least one other professor I work with.  I have a dataset I created in Power BI Desktop from an Excel file.  I uploaded the dataset to Power BI and when I click on report from My workspace, Power BI just hangs there. I can click on the menu items on the left, but the gray bar across the top has lightly flashing gray bars and ton the right side, are some large gray lines.

Nothing actually loads.

This has been happening since at least yesterday, if not the day before.  If I open a report from a data set I created before now, it works.  (A week or so ago?).  If I click file, save as and choose a new name for that report, it hangs like the others.  I can't find any other mentions of this in the forums.  We are using free accounts.

A few things I have tried:

  • Using an alternate free account.
  • Using Chrome incognito with the above free account, as well as my account.
  • Tried Edge Browser
  • Data sets had been saved in Power BI September release.  Just upgraded to October release.
  • Tried multiple user accounts.

    Thank you for any help.

Nope, same issue on another computer.  The other professor had been on the Pro trial and it was failing for him, as well.  I forgot to mention that in the above list.  It has occured for a number of users.

I SEEM to have figured it out.  If we upload a data set and have a "blank" report associated with it, it won't open.  It just sits there.

If I put something there, even a text box with a little text, it will open.  I accidently made that discovery trying to figure this out.

Hi @Rifter

That does sound unusual.

What happens if you try and trial for Power BI Pro does that solve your error?

Also what happens if you try and log in from another computer?
