Hi,
I have a situation where a user had incorrect credentials to access a Power BI report in the Service. They have now been given Workspace Viewer rights so should now have access but its still showing an error message.
Is clearing of the cache required in order to view the report ?
thanks
Scott
Hi @PaisleyPrince,
Thanks for reaching out to the Microsoft fabric community forum. Based on the error message and the current access setup, it sounds like the issue is related to dataset permissions, especially if the report is a thin report (i.e., the report resides in one workspace, but its dataset is in another). Try these trouble shooting steps and check if they resolve your issue:
* Check in whcih workspace the dataset is located. You can do it by opening the report in the Power BI Service (if you have access), go to File -> Settings, and confirm which workspace the dataset (semantic model) is in.
* If the dataset is in a different workspace than the report, the user must have at least build permissions on the dataset.
* Also check the dataset credentials and gateway. If the dataset connects to an on-premises data source, make sure the gateway is online and the credentials are valid.
I would also take a moment to thank @aj1973 and @MasonMA, for actively participating in the community forum and for the solutions you’ve been sharing in the community forum. Your contributions make a real difference.
If I misunderstand your needs or you still have problems on it, please feel free to let us know.

Similar issue can be found in this post as well,
What I would advise is no more than checking the credentials or authentication method of your Dataset/Dataflow in the setting, or if your Dataset is connecting to on-prem data, make sure the on-premises gateway is online and mapped correctly, and ensure the user/service account that owns the dataset is authorized on the gateway.
Refresh your dataset once done and ask your report viewer to refresh the webpage.
Maybe other users or community support have better suggestions ?
Hi, the error message is "The report couldn't access the data source - contact the author to have it fixed"
It sounds more like a thin report that the user is trying to open with a Viwer access permission in a Workspace. This thin report must have its dataset or semantic model located in another workspace. therefore the user must have access to the workspace or better granted permission to the dataset.

Hi, you would need to specify what error messages they are seeing on the screen and it'd help if you can attach some photos.
