Report Snapshot/Freeze Data Scenario
Hi,
Does anyone have work around to take monthly or bi weekly reports snapshot of PowerBI Report which is based off SQL Server On Prem Direct Query mode. User wants to lockdown the last period data and publish it to broader group. There is one APP which is already live that is available to all users and power user wants to take a copy on last date of last period and be able to lockdown/freeze the data within report. Please advise how best to approach this
My Approach: I have suggested to convert to Import Mode and publish to dev workspace and then copy this report over to desired prod workspace so they will not have option to refresh on dataset. Warned the user not to click on Dataset refresh. Is there a way to disable the Dataset refresh completely ?
Thanks in Advance
Archer

Hi archerjayden ,
You may need to install and configure the gateway to display data normally, since your SQL Server data database is a kind of on premise data source .Then you may add the data source to that gateway. See more: :On-premises data gateway , Add a data source. Finally , you may disable the scheduled refresh for the dataset in this way.

Helper I
Hi v-xicai,
Yes the data source for SQL Server is already added to EnterPrise Gateway and we are on premium.
The goal here is to hold stagnant data in PowerBI Service. Yes we have turned off Scheduled Refresh
If a user clicks on Dataset refresh by accident or unknowingly then latest data will flow into the report. We want to avoid this so looking for an approach where we can block users from doing this who also happend to be admin of workspace. Please advise?
Thanks,
Archer

Hi archerjayden ,
Your demand is a good idea, while there is no such an option to lock refresh in Power BI currently. You can post your new idea in Idea Forum , add your comments there to improve Power BI and make this feature coming sooner.
