Refreshing on the Power BI service

Hi All,

 

I am fairly new here. I was trying to schedule a refrsh on the power bi service. I am connecting to various datasources in the PBIX file including Excel, salesforce and twitter. However, when i try to schedule a refresh it gives me the following error 

 

Failed to update data source credentials: Web.Contents failed to get contents from

    Hi there

    It looks like you are using the personal gateway?

    If you are, you have to go into settings, then click on Datasets.
    Next click on the name of your dataset.
    Then under Data Source Credentials, you will need to put in the credentials to the data sources you are connecting to.

      You are correct, i am using a personal gateway.

       

      I have already tried updating the credentials (the path) but somehow it wont accept it; It is working fine for the excel, however it is not accepting it for salesforce.

        Hi there

        I am not 100% sure how the authentication works for SalesForce, I would imagine that it should work

    Hi Sherin I know this reply is very late lol, but were you able to find a solution? I think there's no need to use a gateway in this case to use a gateway. As a workaround, maybe you can directly connect your SF and Twitter data using a 3rd party connector. I've tried windsor.ai, supermetrics and funnel.io. I stayed with windsor because it is much cheaper so just to let you know other options. In case you wonder, to make the connection first search for the Salesforce connector in the data sources list:

     

     

    After that, just grant access to your Salesforce account using your credentials, then on preview and destination page you will see a preview of your Salesforce fields:

     

     

    There just select the fields you need. It is also compatible with custom fields and custom objects, so you'll be able to export them through windsor.  Finally, just select PBI as your data destination and finally just copy and paste the url on PBI --> Get Data --> Web --> Paste the url.

    Hi Sherin ,

     

    Since Excel credentials are accepted but Salesforce credentials are not, I would focus on the Salesforce connection rather than the gateway itself.

     

    Try clearing and re-entering the Salesforce credentials under the semantic model settings in Power BI Service. Also confirm that the Salesforce user has API Enabled permission and that the connection uses a supported production or custom domain, not a Lightning URL.

     

    The gateway is still required for the local Excel source. If Excel and Salesforce are combined in the same Power Query query, also check the mixed cloud and local source configuration.

     

    If the native Salesforce connection remains unstable, Power BI Connector for Salesforce by Metrica Software provides another Salesforce-to-Power BI path: https://appexchange.salesforce.com/appxListingDetail?listingId=31526f0e-abd8-4cb5-bd1a-3bd56b5c0577

     

    It will not fix a gateway or credential configuration issue directly, but it can simplify the Salesforce extraction layer.
