Refresh time not reduce even after applying incremental refresh

Hello Everyone,

I have issue regarding incremnetal refresh. I have a dataset which is taking more than 2 hrs to refresh the dataset to reduce the time I have applied incremental refresh on the dataset and but even after applying the incremental refresh dataset is same time to refrsh and sometime more than the original data. Can anyone have idea why it is behaving like this?

Thanks

Hi @lishapruthi ,

Please make sure you have successfully configured incremental refresh. Normally when incremental refresh is configured, except for the first time when it takes a long time to do a full refresh, subsequent refreshes should be done quickly.

For more details about incremental refresh, you can read related document: Incremental refresh for datasets and real-time data in Power BI - Power BI | Microsoft LearnConfigure incremental refresh and real-time data for Power BI datasets - Power BI | Microsoft Learn

Hi @Anonymous ,

Yes, incremental refresh is configured successfully as now I am not able to download the file from PowerBI service, it is showing you cannot download this file now.
My dataset is connected to teradata so any refresh issue occurs beacuse of dataset also?

Thanks

Hi @lishapruthi ,

For Incremental Refresh dataset, After publishing to the Power BI service, you can't download the dataset back as a .pbix to Power BI Desktop. Because datasets in the service can grow so large, it's impractical to download and open them on a typical desktop computer.

Hi @Anonymous ,

Right, I got this point. But still even after configuring the incremental refresh successfully, dataset is taking more than 2 hrs to refresh. Please help me to understand how I can solve this issue.

Thanks

Hi @lishapruthi ,

Is it possible to describe your configuration process and provide screenshots?  because I can't tell exactly what went wrong, normally, if there is no problem with the configuration, this problem will not occur. For your sensitive information, please desensitize.

Hi @Anonymous ,

Below are the steps followed for configuring the incremental refresh:

  • Created parameters for StartDate and EndDate.

  • Select the date column and apply date/time filters and setup the parameters dynamically.

  • Configure incremental refresh in desktop view and then publish.
